My annual solo birthday weekend in New York City was wonderful. I packed a ton of stuff in three days and still didn’t get to do everything I wanted to do. The Tenement Museum was amazing and I could have gladly gone on every tour. The Morgan Library was gorgeous and so was the New York Public Library. I loved seeing the original Winnie the Pooh. The Met was wonderful as always. I explored Little Italy and the East Village and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. I saw a free concert in Bryant Park. The Museum of Broadway was so much fun. And the two Broadway musicals I saw were amazing.
I really wish I could have stayed longer. I love this city.
Best of all, I took some time to check in with myself on my hope for the future and my thoughts on my present. It was great to take a step back and really think about what I want and what I need. When I’m working, I spend so my time thinking about what I “should” do or what others expect of me in my daily life.
This weekend in New York City was my time to do the things I wanted to do. And I centered myself by remembering that I need to do more of that at home. I’ve worked hard my whole life. This is my time. I’m not going to live under any other expectations than my own. It’s a promise I made to myself during this trip. I hope it won’t take next year’s trip to remind me of that.
